Last Saturday, more than 300 attendees gathered at the Mississauga Community Centre for a lively evening of Yemeni music, food, and storytelling. The event, titled From Sana’a to Canada, was organized by the Yemeni Cultural Society of Ontario to celebrate heritage and build intergenerational ties.

Traditional dances like the Bara’a were performed by youth wearing authentic attire, while elders shared tales from their villages, drawing laughter and emotion from the audience. Attendees enjoyed freshly made dishes like saltah, bint al-sahn, and kahwa.

“We want the younger generation to understand where they come from,” said Ahlam Al-Sabri, one of the organizers. “And we also want Canadians to see how rich our culture truly is.”
