The Yemeni Youth Sports Club in Ottawa brought home silver medals this weekend after an incredible performance at the Capital City Youth Soccer Cup. Competing against teams from across Ontario, the under-18 squad demonstrated skill, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Led by Coach Hani Al-Habashi, the team trained for months leading up to the event. “It’s more than just soccer—it’s about confidence, identity, and community pride,” said Al-Habashi.
Parents and volunteers from the Yemeni community organized transportation and meals for the team, with support from local businesses. Plans are already in motion to create a girls’ team by next summer, reflecting the growing interest in youth sports across the community.
